Springer Nature AI Labs Intern, Springer Nature Opening Doors Programme

Are you looking for an internship that provides hands-on experience in research publishing and the chance to make connections at one of the largest publishers of education and research content?

The Springer Nature Opening Doors internship at Springer Nature AI Labs (SNAIL) is a paid opportunity in Groningen, The Netherlands to gain experience in research and science news publishing in our journals, books or magazines.

Many groups and perspectives are currently underrepresented in the publishing industry, which is a challenge that we are actively trying to address at Springer Nature. The successful applicant will spend up to six months within SNAIL, part of the Operations division of Springer Nature. If selected for this internship, you will be working on extracting and cleaning textual data and combining it into a standard record. Part of the data transformations is done with Natural Language Processing (NLP) AI models, tuning existing and developing new models will also be part of the internship.

About us

The Groningen department of SN AI Labs consists of 25 AI, software, and data engineers who want to build products that make an impact on Springer Nature’s publishing business. We are focused on solutions that work at scale and that support people in their work. Collaboration with other team members and the business units that use our products is has made as a very effective group.

About you

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate programme, or be a recent graduate where AI and software engineering play an important role
  • Skilled in Python
  • Experience with developing and tuning NLP AI models
  • Available to start in June 2025 for an internship of up to six months
  • Interest in research publishing
  • Fluent in English and have an existing right to live and work in The Netherlands
