Photonis Netherlands B.V. is looking for a MSc student with a strong physics background, affinity with
characterisation work, optics, semiconductor physics, or material science.

Context
In the R&D team we are responsible for the development of detectors for scientific
application. We are continuously looking for MSc students with a strong Physics
background to help us in the development of new products, in the characterization of
our devices or in the preparation of experiments.
We are putting together internship projects based on request from running project
portfolio or the need in fundamental depth on specific topics, and based on the
candidate profile.

As our devices are state-of-the-art in single photon detection and imaging, our R&D lab
is equipped with advanced set ups allowing to explore the limits of the technology;
measuring characteristics such as picosecond timing resolution, GHz counting ability,
extreme low dark rate, high imaging resolution, etc.
On the material science side we are continuously searching for specific characterization
methods or explore new materials.

The Job
The subject of the internship can be the implementation of characterization techniques in the lab to study advanced
single-photon counting and imaging detectors/ systems at different conditions and for various applications. To
understand better how detector work and how to improve its properties, some of the modelling tools are available,
e.g. Simion software to calculate electron and ion trajectories and Zemax for optical calculations. Setup and
experiment automatization including programming (labview) can be also requested. Other options could be
technology survey and theoretical modelling. We combine most of the time theory and hands-on tasks.

Our ideal candidate:
• Master’s student with a strong physics background
• Understanding of single photon counting and imaging detectors
• Affinity with modelling software, spectrometry and experimental work
• Team player
• Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential, while knowledge of Dutch is advantageous.
What we’re offering:
• Internship of 4-9 months, start date any time
• Location Photonis Roden
• A monthly compensation of € 650,-

Application Process:
Interested candidates should submit their CV and cover letter to HRM at PHOTONIS: hrm@exosens.com.
Photonis Netherlands B.V. is a key player within the Exosens group and stands as the European leader in cuttingedge electro-optical technologies catering to defense and industrial applications.
